Alcoa Defense Ships 1,000th M777 Titanium Casting Set
Alcoa today announced the shipment of its 1,000th set of
light weight titanium investment castings to BAE for the 155mm M777
Howitzer program.
'Alcoa′s M777 Titanium investment castings have proven to be rugged in
the most demanding of applications but also are a cost effective
solution by avoiding miles of expensive titanium welding costs,? said
Alcoa Defense President, David Dobson.
Alcoa produces the M777 titanium castings at its Ti-Cast center in
Whitehall, Michigan. Cast parts are used throughout the Howitzer for
yokes, mounts and housings.
'Through investment casting design we are able to consolidate multiple
parts into one casting, avoiding expensive labor for fabrication and
welding,? says Mark Straszheim, Alcoa Howmet account manager. 'Our
