Golden Band Resources: EP Deposit Mining Recovers Gold-Rich Riddle Till

09.01.2012  |  CNW
SASKATOON, SK, Jan. 9, 2012 - Golden Band Resources Inc. (Golden Band or the Company) (TSX-V: GBN) reports that mining operations at the Company's EP gold deposit have recovered a significant amount of gold-bearing Riddle Till that overlies and extends down-ice of the deposit. To the end of December 2011, 10,271 tonnes of Riddle Till with an average grade of 12.77 g/t gold have been stockpiled and are now being processed in the Jolu mill.

Gary Haywood, Vice President Operations and COO, noted: "The auriferous Riddle Till recovered to date in Phase 1 of the EP open pit mine represents an additional 4,000 recoverable gold ounces in the short term. These extra ounces are not included in the EP deposit's resources or reserves and we would expect them to substantially increase as we expose more Riddle Till during Phase 2 of the EP open pit."

With the removal of the overlying clay and Riddle Till now sufficiently advanced, mining of the supergene gold zone is underway. The Company commenced processing ore from the EP Deposit on December 24th, 2011. The Riddle Till ore is a significant addition to the mill feed and will be used to increase mill throughput during the month of January.

The source of the gold in the Riddle Till is the near-surface supergene ore zone of the EP Deposit: a unique, subcropping, shallow-dipping orebody with bonanza gold grades. It is contained within a tabular aplite and diorite dyke that is cut by quartz structures, forming a cylindrical gold deposit that grades downwards from supergene to primary ore.

The Riddle Till gold mineralization is not included in either the National Instrument 43-101 resource or reserve estimates for the EP Deposit, as the extent and thickness were difficult to define during historical diamond and reverse circulation drilling. The Company's NI 43-101 Indicated Resource estimate for the EP Deposit is 102,000 tonnes grading 3.81 g/t gold (12,500 ounces; see news release of December 4, 2008); and the reserve is 51,000 tonnes grading 5.51 g/t gold (9,000 ounces; see news release of January 20, 2009).

About Golden Band

Golden Band Resources, already Saskatchewan's leading gold explorer, is now also its newest gold producer. Golden Band is a Saskatchewan-based, publicly listed company (TSX-V: GBN) whose focus is the long-term, systematic exploration and development of its 100%-owned La Ronge Gold Belt properties. Since 1994, Golden Band has assembled through staking and strategic acquisition a land package of more than 875 km2, including 12 known gold deposits, four former producing mines, and a licensed gold mill. Golden Band's key value drivers are the methodical and systematic targeting of primary to advanced-stage exploration while progressing along a parallel path of being a sustainable gold producer. The Company is aggressively pursuing its near-term goal of commercial production of its Bingo, Komis, and EP deposits with processing at the 100%-owned Jolu mill. The Company's objective is the annual production of at least 75,000 ounces of gold over a ten-year project life. Other longer-term objectives include the continuation of its highly successful exploration and acquisition strategies.
