Donner Metals Provides Exploration Drilling Update

06.07.2012  |  Marketwired

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwire) -- 07/06/12 -- Mr. Harvey Keats, Chief Executive Officer of Donner Metals Ltd. (TSX VENTURE: DON)(FRANKFURT: D4M) reports on regional exploration results for drilling conducted within the 4,737 square kilometre Matagami Project as reported to the Company by partner and project operator Xstrata Canada Corporation-Xstrata Zinc Canada Division ("Xstrata Zinc"). Drilling conducted between March and May continued to investigate the favourable stratigraphy throughout the Matagami camp.

Results from each area are described below and assay results are listed in the attached Table 1:

Isle Dieu South:

Diamond drillhole OR-12-42 was drilled approximately 900 metres southwest and down-dip of the former Isle Dieu Mine (reported production: 3.05MT @ 17.85% zinc, 1.01% copper, 76.63g/t silver, 0.46g/t gold) and approximately 400 metres up-dip from the Orchan West Deposit (Historical Resource Estimate of 0.34 million tonnes grading 15.89% zinc, 1.79% copper - Noranda 1997, Internal report, based on 12 mineralized drill holes and 15 confining drillholes at a 30 metre average spacing). OR-12-42 intersected mineralized Key Tuffite from 1,248.10 to 1,250.35 metres at the targeted horizon which graded 1.76% zinc over 2.25 metres. The Key Tuffite is directly underlain by an altered rhyolite sequence containing well developed sphalerite stringers which returned one interval of 4.96% zinc over 1 metre.

DDH OR-12-42 also intersected two unexpected gold zones. The first zone returned 4.27g/t gold and 5.00g/t silver over a 1 metre interval from 255.38 to 256.38 metres. Mineralization was hosted in a quartz-carbonate-chlorite stockwork within an intensely sericitized andesite. A second interval returned 4.15g/t gold and 5.07g/t silver over 3.05 metres from 1,057.45 to 1,060.50 metres within a quartz-carbonate-chlorite stockwork hosted in an interval of foliated and chloritized basalt in contact with a tonalite intrusive.

DJV Area:

Four drillholes were completed in the DJV area 2.7 kilometres north of Xstrata's currently producing Perseverance Mine (5.12 million tonnes grading 15.82% zinc and 1.24% copper, 29.00g/t silver and 0.38g/t gold - 100% Xstrata interest). The program was designed to investigate a 400 metre portion of a newly identified trend of the favourable Key Tuffite horizon. Drillholes DJV-12-90, 91 and 92 all intersected the Key Tuffite. DJV-12-90 also intersected Pipe alteration typical of sulphide deposits in the Matagami Camp at the Key Tuffite interval. Drillhole DJV-12-93 intersected felsic intrusive at the Key Tuffite interval.

In addition, DJV-12-90 retuned 1.82g/t gold over 0.15 metres from 272.35 to 272.50 meters hosted within a sericitized intermediate intrusive.

Galinee 14:

Two drillholes were completed at the Galinee 14 prospect located 6.5 kilometres southeast of the Bracemac-McLeod mine. Diamond drillhole GAL14-12-08 successfully intersected the Key Tuffite from 74.60 to 80.70 metres followed by a thick sequence of chlorite-talc alteration of a type that is associated with mineralization in the Matagami Camp. This alteration was intersected over 346 metres from 285.88 to 632.80 meters and locally contained chalcopyrite stringer mineralization. GAL14-12-09 was drilled at a distance of 120 metres behind GAL14-12-08 and intersected a weakly mineralized tuff unit followed by disseminated and stringer sulphides hosted in intermediate volcanic/intrusive rock.

Diamond drillhole GAL14-07-05EXT, located 6 kilometres southeast of Bracemac-McLeod, was deepened by 321 metres and successfully intersected the Key Tuffite horizon from 343.28 to 344.46 metres. This interval was both overlain and underlain by altered volcanic rocks that locally contained Pipe alteration.

Daniel Belt:

One hole was drilled in the Daniel Belt 16 kilometres northwest of the Perseverance Mine and 1 kilometre northwest of the Daniel 1 prospect. DAN-12-86 intersected graphite hosted within basalts.

Riviere Allard:

One drillhole was completed in the Riviere Allard area in the Central Camp Joint Venture Area. RA-12-09 was drilled to follow up previously encountered Tuffite in this area and to test a coincident magnetic and electromagnetic trend. The hole intersected a favourable andesite-rhyolite contact at 365 metres.

PD1 Area:

One hole was drilled 1.8 kilometres northwest of the PD1 Deposit as a test of an InfiniTEM anomaly and to test stratigraphy in the northern end of the West Camp Joint Venture Area. Diamond drillhole PD-12-45 intersected a stratigraphic sequence of rhyolite followed by intermediate and mafic volcanic rocks. No significant mineralization was encountered.

One drill rig is currently dedicated to drilling in the McLeod area and one is assigned to regional exploration as part of an ongoing diamond drilling program.

The Company is a fully vested partner with Xstrata Canada Corporation in the extensive Matagami base metal camp located in the Abitibi region of central Quebec. This joint venture partnership covers six joint venture areas governing 4,737 square kilometres of prime stratigraphy which has yielded high-grade base metal production since 1961. Xstrata Zinc is the project operator for the Matagami Project. Additional information is available at www.donnermetals.com.
