Mawson Rompas Claims Gain Legal Force in Finland

VANCOUVER, Oct. 17, 2012 /CNW/ - Mawson Resources Limited ("Mawson") TSX - MAW; Frankfurt - MXR, PINKSHEETS- MWSNF announces that 110 granted exploration claims that cover a surface area of 10,580 hectares at Mawson's Rompas gold project in northern Finland have come into legal force following the completion of a standard appeal process.

Mr. Hudson, Mawson's President and CEO, states, "After a lengthy process and much anticipation, Mawson has obtained legal rights to 100% of the core Rompas claims (Figure 1).  This will allow us to drill test the exciting Rompas and Rajapalot gold discoveries outside Natura 2000 areas.  We are soon planning to commence drilling at both the North Rompas prospect where better trench results include 1.4 metres at 2,529 g/t gold, and at the South Rompas prospect, located 6 kilometres south, to follow up our initial drill results drilled during the Fall of 2012 which included 6 metres at 617 g/t gold (uncut) in drill hole ROM0011." 

On October 31, 2011 the Finnish Safety and Chemical Agency (TUKES) granted the claims for a period of 3 years.  In November 2011, five appeals were filed against the decision made by TUKES.  The Rovaniemi Administrative Court examined the appeals and on September 14, 2012, a decision was taken to reject all appeals in favour of the granting decision. As no further appeals were filed to the Supreme Administrative Court within 30 days, the claims took legal effect from October 15, 2012.

The granting decision in October 31, 2011 which is now in legal force outlines:

• Granting of the mineral rights over the entire 10,580 hectares claim area to Mawson; and
  
  
• Limitations on exploration methods that can be completed in the Natura 2000 areas within the exploration claims, including no drilling or trenching due to the presence of specific flora until Mawson applies for a modification of the claim decision by conducting an environmental program (a Natura 2000 assessment) (Figure 1). Golder Associates of Finland have already commenced the environmental study and will complete it during Q4 2012.   Approximately 30% of the 6 kilometre trend at Rompas is now available to drill test.
