Applied Minerals, Inc. Hires Rogerio Galante to Lead Its Iron Oxide Business Division

09.09.2013  |  Marketwired

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Sep 9, 2013) - Applied Minerals Inc., (the "Company", "Applied Minerals") (OTCQB: AMNL) (OTCBB: AMNL), a leading global producer of halloysite clay, is pleased to announce that it has hired Rogerio Galante to lead its iron oxide business. Mr. Galante has spent the last 15 years at Lanxess AG, a EUR9.1 (approximately US$12 billion) billion specialty chemicals company and the world's largest producer of iron oxide pigments. While working in Lanxess' Inorganic Pigments Group, Rogerio held a number of senior level roles including Sales Manager of Inorganic Pigments for Brazil, Director of Logistics, Portfolio Management and Deputy Head of North American Iron Oxide Pigments. His experience at Lanxess covered all aspects of product commercialization and operations.

As head of Applied Minerals' iron oxide operation, Mr. Galante will be responsible for the sales, marketing and development of a range of new iron oxide products from Applied Minerals' Dragon Mine resource. "We are pleased and honored to welcome Rogerio as a leader in our organization. Rogerio brings with him a wealth of knowledge of the global iron oxide marketplace with in-depth, hands-on expertise spanning all facets of successful product commercialization. We very much look forward to the contribution of Rogerio's leadership as we approach the launch of our new iron oxide products," said Andre Zeitoun, President and CEO of Applied Minerals Inc.

According to Mr. Galante: "I am very excited about the opportunity to join the Applied Minerals team in this new role. The uncharacteristically high purity and surface area of the natural iron oxide from the Dragon Mine has great potential to enter a wide range of markets to which typical natural iron oxides have not been traditionally marketed. I look forward to helping the Company capitalize on the promising commercial opportunities that exist for its iron oxide resource."

The Company plans to introduce a range of hematite and goethite-based oxide products to serve the following pigmentary and technical applications:

  • High value transparent iron oxide pigments for wood stains, plastics and cosmetics;
  • Environmental sorbents for water purification and remediation of toxic effluents;
  • Catalysts; and
  • Flame retardant synergists for polymer composites.

About Applied Minerals
Applied Minerals is the leading producer of halloysite clay solutions from its wholly-owned Dragon Mine property in Utah. Halloysite is aluminosilicate clay that forms naturally occurring nanotubes. In addition to serving the traditional halloysite markets for use in technical ceramics and catalytic applications, the Company has developed niche applications that benefit from the tubular morphology of its halloysite. These applications include carriers of active ingredients in paints, coatings and building materials, environmental remediation, agricultural applications and high-performance additives & fillers for plastic composites. Additional information on the company can be found on our company website at www.appliedminerals.com.

Applied Minerals' wholly-owned Dragon Mine also contains a high-grade iron oxide resource consisting of Goethite and Hematite. Combining ultra-high purity and consistent quality, the inherent properties of iron oxide from the Dragon Mine allow for a wide range of end uses in pigment and technical applications.
