HALIFAX, Sept. 29, 2014 /CNW/ - Zephyr Minerals Ltd. ("Zephyr" or the "Company") (TSX-V: ZFR) is pleased to announce that it has shipped a bulk sample from its 100% owned Dawson Gold Project ("Dawson Project") in Colorado, USA to Inspectorate Metallurgical, a division of Bureau Veritas Commodities Canada Ltd. in Richmond, BC. The purpose of the test work is to complete metallurgical studies in order to confirm gold metallurgy as well as to develop a precious metal recovery process which will be used for equipment sizing, selection and process plant design. Process optimization will be one of the objectives of this program.
A mineralogical study demonstrated that the gold in the Dawson resource is in the form of native gold occurring in grains and flakes between 1 micron (0.001 mm) and 240 micron (0.24 mm) in size. Previous metallurgical studies have demonstrated that approximately 90% of the gold is recoverable though a combination of gravity and froth floatation. The current program will build on the previous work to attempt to further enhance the recoveries by both gravity and flotation.
Additional testing will include tailings studies, as well as grind size optimization, thickening and filtration tests needed for plant design as well as permitting. Results are expected before year end.
As part of its efforts to support the permitting process, Zephyr is undertaking a surface and ground water monitoring program. The ground water monitoring stations are located both up gradient and down gradient of the proposed process plant site. The water monitoring will continue for a 15 month period to comply with state permitting requirements.
