Thomson Resources Ltd Polymetallic Surface Anomalies at Mt Jacob

17.11.2014  |  ABN Newswire
Sydney, Australia (ABN Newswire) - Historical results for rock chip sampling collected by major mining companies CRA and BHP at the Mt Jacob project near Kempsey, NSW between 1979 and 1992 have been collated, verified and located where possible. Thomson Resources (ASX:TMZ) obtained the information from reports now publicly available on the NSW Geological Survey website.

Strong Polymetallic Anomalies at Mt Jacob

- Multiple gold, copper, tin, tungsten, zinc and silver anomalies located
- Large mineralised, zoned system identified
- Enhances Intrusion-Related gold system target
- Drilling planned to commence in early 2015

The reports document 511 rock chip samples in the area and this study has located 483 of those (Figure 1, Table 1 in link below).

Previous work reported by Thomson in January 2014 had identified a 1km long northtrending gold in soil anomaly (greater than 0.1 g/t Au, peak 0.7 g/t Au, orange outline on Figure 1) which overlapped a magnetic low of a more elliptical shape (grey dotted line on Figure 1) interpreted to represent a buried intrusive which may have been responsible for the gold anomalism. The new work shows that gold bearing rock chips up to 2.2 g/t Au generally occur within both of these anomalies; not just confined to the previously identified soil anomaly area but also further afield within the magnetic low.

In contrast, the base metal anomalies of tin, copper, zinc, tungsten and silver mostly ring the outside of the gold anomaly area, a zonation pattern considered typical of Intrusion- Related Gold (IRG) deposits.

Tin anomalies are not confined to the Basin One substantial tin plus copper target area reported previously by Thomson, but extend east to Crystal Ridge, west to Basin Two and south to Ivy Ridge. The anomalous system now measures 2.5km by 2.5km.

The anomalies are largely independent of surface geology, occurring in both the Carboniferous Kullatine Formation and in the unconformably overlying Permian Yessabah Limestone. Again, this is suggestive of a later intrusion being responsible for the anomalies. The intrusion itself is not seen, although minor granite dykes occur on Ivy Ridge.

The analysis supports Thomson's proposition to drill near the centre of both the soil and magnetic anomalies for IRG gold deposits. The target is a sheeted vein system in the roof zone of a granite hidden underneath the exposed porous sandstones and conglomerates that host the known gold mineralisation. Previous drilling in this area returned a best intersection of 88m at 0.4 g/t Au from surface to end of hole in PD86MJ14 (Figure 1 in link below - located 40m northeast of the marked "Drill Target"). The hole was abandoned while still in gold mineralisation. The drilling proposal has won government financial support through the New Frontiers Co-operative Drilling grant scheme. Thomson is working through the approval process and is planning to drill in early 2015.

About Thomson Resources Ltd:

Thomson Resources Ltd. (ASX:TMZ) is an Australian-based exploration company focussed on the discovery and development of high quality mineral deposits within the Thomson Fold Belt of northern NSW. Thomson Resources was incorporated on 17 July 2009 with the initial shareholders being Minotaur Exploration Ltd. and Platsearch NL, ASX-listed, exploration companies.

All TMZ exploration tenements lie within the Thomson Fold Belt, a region of deformed and intruded sediments and volcanics to the north of one of Australia’s premier metalliferous mining districts, the Lachlan Fold Belt. The belt has excellent exploration potential for large, high grade deposits, particularly Cobar-type.

In 2010, TMZ signed joint venture agreements with Compass Resources over a further 15 tenements in the Thomson Fold Belt and adjacent Lachlan Fold Belt. This gives TMZ a dominant position in a new mineral belt which has had minimal, but very encouraging, exploration so far.
