Westmoreland Coal Company (NasdaqGM:WLB) announced today that its Beulah Mine in Beulah, North Dakota received the 2015 North Dakota Public Service Commission Reclamation Award. The PSC’s Reclamation Division recognized the Beulah Mine for implementing and following a mine plan that preserved wooded draw areas. Wooded draws are naturally-occurring steep, narrow valleys that are primarily vegetated with trees and shrubs. These areas provide valuable wildlife habitat, livestock shelter, and natural occurring landscape diversity.
“The Beulah Mine employees take great pride in mine reclamation, and we are grateful for the PSC’s recognition,” stated Shane Gant, Beulah Mine President and General Manager. “We are proud of our Beulah employees for their commitment to environmental stewardship, a pillar of coal mining and a core value of Westmoreland,” commented John Schadan, Westmoreland’s President.
