African Queen Mines Commences 2016 Exploration Program at Yellowjacket Gold Project with Drone Aerial Survey
Vancouver, British Columbia / TheNewswire / African Queen Mines Ltd. (the "Company") is pleased to announce that it has completed a UAV drone aerial survey of the Pine Creek fault zone gold target at its Yellowjacket Gold Project (the "Project") in Atlin, B.C. The Project covers an area aggregating approximately 79.56 sq. km. of strategic ground 9 km East of Atlin, B.C., in the historic Pine Creek Valley, which has been the site of continuing mining operations for over a century.
The resulting high-resolution aerial photography generated in the survey has been integrated with ongoing geological compilations and exploration planning for the coming work season, which typically runs from May through October in the region. Combined with the historic airborne magnetics data and the known geology, the new images have allowed the Company to identify target areas for further investigation and mapping in preparation for the Company's upcoming core drilling program. The survey provides an update to the profile of the main gold trend on the property and is a step forward in the overall compilation of data in that area, providing an up-to-date detailed imagery base.
A detailed 3-D terrain model and imagery were delivered as part of the survey. These have added detail to the 3-D component of the compilation, aiding in understanding the orientation of interesting structural trends with respect to important surface features. The 3-D products are also aiding in advancement of the Mine Plan and Reclamation Program that are part of the Company's overall long-term commitment to the project.
The Company's exploration program at the Project is being overseen by Ms. Fionnuala Devine, P.Geo., a Qualified Person. She is an experienced geologist with a background largely in early to advanced-stage exploration. She has a thorough understanding of the geology, mineralization and social structure of the Atlin mining camp, which is one of B.C.'s most prolific placer gold-producing regions. Ms. Devine and her technical team are presently developing a database and carrying out additional geological mapping and alteration studies with a view toward developing targets for the Company's upcoming core drilling program anticipated to commence shortly at the Project.
According to Irwin Olian, CEO of the Company, "We are very excited that our exploration program at the Yellowjacket Gold Project is now underway. Our technical team is moving forward with targeting work for our upcoming core drilling program. The initial drone aerial survey is one state-of-the art exploration tools we are utilizing to provide data to increase effectiveness of our targeting efforts."
