Alcoa Receives Fred Rogers Good Neighbor Award for Workplace Volunteerism
Alcoa (NYSE:AA) ?was recognized as a good neighbor by the United Way of
Allegheny County for its commitment to workplace volunteerism with a
Fred Rogers Good Neighbor Award. On what would have been Mr. Rogers' 84th
birthday, the United Way of Allegheny County celebrates companies,
agencies and volunteers who make an impact in our community. It is the
second year of the Good Neighbor Award program and the second year that
Alcoa has been honored as a community leader for employee volunteerism.
About 25 employees from Alcoa's offices on the North Shore actively
participate in two signature programs that take place in two Pittsburgh
public schools on the North Side: Everyone Wins! at Pittsburgh King and
Be a 6th Grade Mentor at both Pittsburgh King and Pittsburgh
Allegheny.
'These are both great programs that help kids in our own back yard,'
said Judy Moser, Alcoa Global Primary Products Manager Information
Services, who has volunteered in both programs for several years. 'It is
personally rewarding to see a child enjoy reading and learning because
of the relationship we've formed.'
Be a 6th Grade Mentor pairs students with adult role models
who help them develop career aspirations that propel them toward
academic proficiency that ultimately can result in successful careers.
Everyone Wins! is a lunch time reading program with a goal to increase
students' interest in reading and access to high-quality books.
A record 56 percent of Alcoa employees took part in the company's annual Month
of Service and contributed 900,000 hours to community service
year-round.
