Alcoa Promotes Mike Barriere to Vice President, Human Resources; Jack Bergen Becomes Vice President, Corporate Projects

[url530]Alcoa[/url] (NYSE:AA) announced today that Mike Barriere has been promoted to Vice President, Human Resources effective May 1. He succeeds Jack Bergen, who will become Vice President, Corporate Projects. Barriere will also become a member of the Alcoa Executive Council, the senior leadership team that sets corporate strategic direction. Alcoa has 61,000 employees in 31 countries.

'With a 20-year track record of success as an HR professional, Mike has the ideal experience and qualifications to advance our human resources organization and develop talent as a solid Alcoa advantage,' said Alcoa Chairman and CEO Klaus Kleinfeld.

Bergen, in his new role, will serve in a variety of assignments to strengthen coordination and collaboration among Alcoa′s business units and staff groups. He will also have a key role in developing and teaching leadership programs for various levels of the organization, including senior executive coaching.

Biographical Information:

Mike Barriere

Mike Barriere joined Alcoa as Chief Talent Officer in 2011, having oversight for talent development, performance management, leadership training, succession planning and employee engagement. Prior to coming to Alcoa, he was Senior Vice President of Human Resources at New York Life Insurance. While there, he established HR centers of expertise in Talent Management, Recruiting, Diversity and Compensation. Prior to NY Life, he led a global HR team at Citigroup that included HR business partner, compensation, strategy, talent and leadership development functions for the bank′s businesses in Asia, Europe, Latin America and the U.S. Earlier in his career, Barriere was a system design engineer for Grumman Aerospace Corporation and a research scientist at Brookhaven National Laboratory in its Human Factors & Performance Analysis Group.

Barriere has a PhD in industrial psychology from Hofstra University in New York, with a focus on employee engagement and leadership, and an MBA from the Wharton Business School at University of Pennsylvania. He earned his bachelor′s degree in Engineering Science from Hofstra.


Jack Bergen

Jack Bergen is a seasoned HR and Communications professional, having served in senior management positions with several corporations including Siemens, CBS, Westinghouse and GE. He was also CEO of GCI Group, an international public relations and government affairs firm with operations in 24 countries.

Bergen joined Alcoa in 2008 responsible for global external and internal communications, government affairs and e-business for the Company, as well as oversight to the Alcoa Foundation. In 2010, he became vice president, Human Resources overseeing HR functions across the globe in the 31 countries where Alcoa has a presence.

He has served as a strategic planner in the Pentagon and as chief speechwriter to Secretary of Defense Casper Weinberger during the Reagan Administration. Bergen graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point with a degree in Engineering and later received a Master's degree in English from Indiana University. A Vietnam veteran, Bergen led military units in Europe and Korea and was an Army Ranger and paratrooper.
