Nearly 20,000 Alcoa Employees Volunteer to Green Their Communities during Second Annual Green Works

In recognition of United Nations World Population Day, Alcoa Foundation
today announced that nearly 20,000 Alcoa (NYSE: AA) employees around the
world volunteered during the Company′s second annual Green
Works
campaign to reduce their carbon footprint, recycle to save
energy and plant trees to replenish the earth.


Increasing participation by more than 45%, Alcoa employees participated
in 275 community service projects during the two-month global
volunteering initiative, which was created to support the Company′s
environmental programs and celebrate international environmental
holidays like Arbor Day, Earth Day and World Environment Day.


'As we consider the immediate and future benefits of our
community service efforts, Green Works becomes a meaningful reflection
of Alcoa Inc′s new vision: "Alcoa. Advancing each generation,′? said
Paula Davis, President, Alcoa Foundation. 'Through our products,
practices and people, Alcoa seeks to have a positive impact on society.
Community service is a key element of this philosophy. On World
Population Day, we want to raise awareness once again about preservation
and restoration and demonstrate how effective we can be when we work
together. Our actions add up to sustainable change,? Davis said.

Impacts Achieved during 2012 Green Works:


  • Planted more than 60,000 trees to support Alcoa′s Ten Million Trees
    campaign

  • Recycled 45,500 pounds of electronics, preventing toxic materials from
    entering landfills

  • Recycled 30,000 pounds of aluminum cans, enough to make almost a
    million new cans

  • Led nearly 120 environment workshops to show young people how to
    preserve the planet

  • Rehabilitated more than 100 rivers, parks and recreation areas

Regional Highlights of 2012 Green Works:

Asia


In China, Japan and South Korea, Alcoa employees partnered with
government officials, community-based organizations, and academic
institutions to collect litter, plant more than 1,200 trees and educate
students about wildlife protection.

Australia


Alcoa of Australia and Greening Australia celebrated their 30-year
partnership by hosting several community tree plantings, distributing
native seedlings to employees and clearing debris along the coast.

Brazil


Across Brazil, Alcoa employees and community members planted trees at
public schools, educated youth about how to protect the environment,
beautified parks and implemented recycling programs.

Canada


In support of the Ten Million Trees program, 4,200 trees were
distributed to employees, and a water conservation awareness campaign
was launched at the Deschambault Smelter.

Europe


Through more than 25 service projects across Europe, Alcoa employees
improved parks, schools and recreations areas, planted trees and
educated the next generation about energy efficiency.

Jamaica


Jamalco partnered with Protect the Environment Trust and Hear the
Children Cry to launch an on-site recycling program. This recycling
project will provide employment for residents in Kingston, Jamaica.

Russia


More than 600 employees 'greened? their community by volunteering to
clean a beach, landscape the grounds at local schools and social
centers, and plant trees in recognition of the annual Moscow Parks
Festival.

United States


Across the U.S., employees, their families and friends participated in
environmental workshops, electronic recycling drives and tree plantings
with local nature conservatories.
