Sherritt Reports Fatality at its Moa Joint Venture Mine

Sherritt International Corp. ("Sherritt" or the "Corporation") (TSX:S) regrets to announce the death of an employee at the Moa Joint Venture mine due to a vehicle-related accident.

"Sherritt is deeply saddened by this tragic incident," said Leon Binedell, President and CEO, Sherritt. "Our priority is always the safety and wellbeing of our employees, and we would like to express our heartfelt condolences and our deepest sympathies to the individual's family, friends, and colleagues. We work hard to prevent accidents and are fully committed to understanding the root causes that led to this incident in order to prevent future incidents from occurring at our operations."

Sherritt has initiated its investigation and is working with local authorities to determine the cause of the accident.

About the Moa Joint Venture

The Moa Joint Venture is a 50/50 partnership between Sherritt and General Nickel Company S.A. of Cuba. The Moa JV mines and processes nickel laterite deposits in Cuba for refining into finished nickel and cobalt from its refinery in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta or for potential sale as intermediary products and markets its products to customers internationally, except the United States.
