Nouveau Monde Mining Enterprises Inc: Reports First Exploration Drilling Result on Its Matawinie Property

18.09.2013  |  Marketwired
17.32 m Grading 11.9% Cg Including 13.12m Grading 13.05% Cg

GATINEAU, Sep 18, 2013 - Nouveau Monde Mining Enterprises Inc. ("Nouveau Monde") (TSX VENTURE:NOU) is pleased to report the assay results of its recent drill testing program on the Matawinie graphite Property (or the "Property") located in the St-Michel-des-Saints area, some 140 km North of Montreal, Québec. Drilling, conducted in mid-July of 2013, was initiated to test the continuation at depth of the Ti-Nou surface showing as well as to test drilling equipment in view of an upcoming field campaign. Hole TN-DH01 was drilled at a -45° dip angle with an azimuth of 75°. The drill collar was set directly on the beginning of trench TN-TR01 announced on July 8th 2013 and located alongside a dirt road.

A short one (1) hole drill testing program returned 11.9 % Cg over 17.32m including 13.05 % Cg over 13.12 m. Graphitic gneiss was intercepted over the entire 39 m length. Samples collected from split core was sent for analysis, significant results are shown in Table 1.

Table 1: Summary of significant results from the Ti-Nou drilling test.

All samples were analyzed by ALS Minerals of North Vancouver (B-C), under the laboratory internal analytical code C-IR06. This type of analysis uses a LECO analyzer which measures the organic carbon contained in a rock sample. It is assumed that all organic carbon measured by the LECO analyzer is from graphite contained within a sample.

GROUND GEOPHYSICAL SURVEY UNDERWAY

Strong of these encouraging results, Nouveau Monde has decided to further investigate the sources of the two conductive anomalies detected on the Ti-Nou block during the airborne geophysical survey described in the Company's news release dated March 28th 2013. Both conductive anomalies are about 2 km in length and measure 1 km and 250 m respectively in width. The graphite mineralization intersecting hole TN-DH01, announced today, is located at the north-western edge of the southernmost conductive anomaly.

A ground geophysical program has been designed to cover most of the extent of the airborne anomalies. The program comprises of traditional geophysical surveys using magnetic and horizontal loops electromagnetic methods, as well as of an innovative time-domain electromagnetic technology developed and tested in partnership with Nouveau Monde. This technology enables mapping of shallow conductors with unprecedented resolution.

The objective of the geophysical program is to outline areas where graphite-rich zones appear most voluminous, with significantly better resolution than is possible by using airborne methods. The most promising targets will be stripped and /or drill tested as part of a subsequent 1500m exploration drilling program to be conducted later this fall.

The line cutting of the survey grids is currently under way, and the geophysical results are expected in the following weeks.

MATAWINIE PROPERTY

The Matawinie Property consists of six group of claims located about 140 km north of Montreal. The claims are contained within a 50 km radius just North of St-Michel-des-Saints in the Matawinie regional county municipality, Province of Québec. Nouveau Monde has an option to acquire 100% interest in the property (see February 12th 2013 press release for details). These claims are located at the Eastern limit of the highly prospective Central Metasedimentary belt of the Grenville geological province, host to many active graphite projects. The host rocks in that region are graphitic crystalline marbles and paragneiss, similar to the host stratigraphy at Timcal's Lac des Iles graphite mine, currently Canada's only producing graphite mine.

QUALITY CONTROL AND QUALITY ASSURANCE

The drilling was supervised by Eric Desaulniers, MSc, Géo, President and Chief Executive Officer of Nouveau Monde. A strict protocol including the insertion of duplicate and blank samples within the sample stream was adopted as part of a quality assurance, quality control (or QA/QC) program. Verification, preparation and sample submittal for the mid-July 2013 drilling program was completed by consulting geologist Antoine Cloutier, Géo (Québec), B.Sc.

A total of 25 half-split BQ size core samples containing a significant amount of Cg mineralization were collected over the first 24.5 m and sent for analysis. All samples were analyzed for organic carbon (Cg) content by a LECO analyzer (ALS code; C-IR06) at the ALS Minerals laboratory located in North Vancouver (B-C), Canada. This laboratory is accredited with the ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 17025 certifications. Sulfur (or "S") as well as a suite of elements was analyzed by ALS Minerals using ICP-AES and ICP-MS methods (ALS laboratory code; ME-MS61) following total digestion by four acid; perchloric, nitric, hydrofluoric and hydrochloric.

The technical information in this news release was prepared by Antoine Cloutier, Géo, and Joël Dubé, Ing., both are consultants for Nouveau-Monde and are qualified persons under National Instrument 43-101.
